ORGANIC COTTON
Our Organic Cotton has been developed and knitted locally in Melbourne from organically grown and processed GOTS-certified cotton yarns. This means that our Organic Cotton is frown and processed without the use of toxic pesticides, sewage sludge, irradiation or genetic engineering. It uses a system of farming that strives for a balance with nature using methods and materials that are low-impact to the environment. For our printed Organic Cotton range, we are working with a Melbourne-based printers that is accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia and is Oeko-tex compliant. Our printers use water-based pigment ink directly onto fabric which is bonded by heat & pressure to the fibre which means there are no water or ink wastage in the process, which is common on other forms of fabric printing.
RECYCLED POLYESTER
For four-way stretch activewear fabrics where there are limited alternatives aside from synthetic materials, we have opted for low-impact Recycled Polyester sourced from our local manufacturer in Sydney, Australia. This fabric is made from fibres 100% recycled from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic commonly used in water bottles and other single use plastics, keeping these plastics from going to landfill and into our oceans. Aside from that, the production process of Recycled Polyester requires 59% less energy compared to New Polyester and can contribute to reduce the extraction of crude oil and natural gas to make more plastic. However, we do understand that Recycled Polyester is still Polyester that releases micro plastics when washed. Until we find a better solution for this problem, we recommend washing all our Recycled Polyester pieces using Guppy Friend Washing Bag which you can purchase here: http://shop.seasheperd.org.au/products/guppy-bag
MERINO WOOL
The fabric from this set are 100% merino wool sourced from a Melbourne-based fabric supplier where their fabric supply chain comes from a New Zealand-based World Leading Ethical Wool company. Although they ship their New-Zealand Merino Wool fibres off-shore, their Vietnam-based partner mill have an MAPP (Merino Advanced Performance Programme) guarantee with Bluesign®️ system which ensures environmental, economic sustainability, and animal welfare. They have a strict NO MULESING policy for all their supplier farms. Their people work in an environment certified with Workplace Safety Management Practices from the ACCC Government body. Other than that, they are also Oeko-Tex compliant, which means all chemical and colourants used in their dyeing process has been approved for its safety and quality.
